Exhibition: Away From Here
24 September to 11 October 2020
M16 Artspace
Away From Here explored the interplay between individual perspectives of the immediate environment and the vastness of the universe, presenting a viewpoint suspended in space. This body of work endeavoured to merge personal interpretations with interstellar space themes, offering viewers a nuanced perspective on the relationship between human perception, the Earth and the expanse of the universe.
Through development of artworks for Away From Here, Shields employed diverse painting techniques to blend earthly details with celestial motifs, prompting contemplation and inquiry in the observer. From the intricacies of everyday surroundings to the magnitude of cosmic realms, Shields' artworks served as a conduit for reflecting on humanity's place within the universe.

Engaging with the artworks, viewers were encouraged to reflect on existential questions and ponder the mysteries of existence. Through abstracted composition of colour and form audiences were invited to explore their own perceptions and navigate the enigmatic vastness of the universe.
Ultimately, Away From Here served as a reminder of the interconnectedness of all things and the beauty found in the juxtaposition of the ordinary and the extraordinary. It embodied a collective journey through time and space, inviting individuals to find meaning amidst the cosmic spectacle.
Away From Here was Shields' first exhibition, and opened on Thursday, 24 September 2020.
